What is Omega-3?

• Omega-3 is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which includes EPA and DHA found in fish oil. These fatty acids are important for normal body function and should therefore be obtained through daily nutrition.
• Fish and fish oil are among the main sources of EPA and DHA. If fish is rarely consumed in the diet, omega-3 fatty acids can be supplemented with dietary supplements.
• It is observed that in regions where a lot of fish is traditionally eaten (for example, coastal areas), the diet of the population is richer in omega-3 fatty acids. Longer life expectancy in such communities is often associated with a balanced diet and lifestyle, in which fish consumption plays an important role.
• DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision, while EPA and DHA together contribute to the maintenance of normal heart function when consumed in appropriate amounts.
